Progressive Core Shelter
Youth
The Order of Malta Philippines continues to integrate youth activities with its various programs. Seen above is a progressive core shelter built by the Basey youth who completed their NCII TESDA Certificate in Carpentry and Masonry. The Order of Malta Philippines and Malte-ser International’s Linking Relief and Rehabilitation to Development (LRRD) Program gave way to collaboration with the National Techni-cal Educational and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to build up capacities of communities.
Psycho-social First Aid Responders
The first ever Psycho-Social First Aid Responders Training Program for the youth took place last December 13, 2014 in Basey, Samar.
The 16 participants were pre-selected from among the youth beneficiaries of Barangay San Antonio and Barangay Amandayehan who expressed their desire to acquire the knowledge and capacity to become future first aid responders when needed.
This unique First Aid Responders program was developed in line with the Order of Malta’s aim to equip communities with disaster preparedness skills since community members are the first responders in any given emergency situation. The next youth train-ing is scheduled on May 2nd in Bantayan Island.
Executive Secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Healthcare of the CBCP, Fr. Dan Cancino, coordinated with the psychologist who served as resource speaker during the training.
