Order of Malta Philippines Medical Mission
The Order of Malta Philippines organized a medical mission on October 3, 2015 in the National Shrine of Saint Michael and the Archangels (San Miguel Church) in Malacañang, Manila, in coordination with Fr. Genaro Diwa and Fr. Carmelo Arada, Jr.
The National Shrine of Saint Michael and the Archangels is the first stone church ever built (year 1603) in the Philippines by the Jesuits. It is the only church in the world dedicated to the seven archangels Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel, Saint Raphael, Saint Uriel, Saint Selatiel, Saint Jhudiel, and Saint Barachiel. It is also known as Malacañang Church because of its proximity to the Malacañang Palace, the official residence of the President of the Republic of the Philippines.
Thirty (30) volunteer doctors of Order of Malta Philippines and doctors from Makati Medical Center performed free consultations. Volunteers from St. Anthony Parish were also present to distribute free medicines to two hundred ninety-one (291) families of San Miguel Parish.
The medical mission was led by the President of The Order of Malta Philippines, Dr. Leopoldo H. Lazatin. Also in attendance were members of the Order of Malta Philippines Doña Delza V. Lazatin, Doña Teresita Liboro, and Doña Virginia Nicolas.
Project Manager of the Order of Malta Philippines for HIV-AIDS, Dr. Perla Alban, Executive Director of the Order of Malta Philippines Cecilia Piñones, and staff of the Order of Malta Philippines Carmelita Rada, Jessa Mamarin, and Christopher Cabalquinto were also present.
