February Spiritual Reflection: How to See Lent as a Season of Grace
Fr. Aris Sison prepared the members of the Order of Malta Philippines for Lent during the spiritual formation held last February 8 at the residence of Dr. Leopoldo and Doña Delza Lazatin. In his short sharing, Fr. Aris gave ten practical pointers that the members of the Order could work on so as to make Lent a personal journey to deepen one’s faith in God:
• Get rid of the lazy addiction to evil.
• Do something that hurts.
• Don’t remain indifferent.
• Pray: Jesus, make our hearts like yours!
• Take part in the sacraments.
• Prayer
• Fasting
• Almsgiving.
• Help the poor.
• Evangelize.
In summary, Fr. Aris counseled the members not to see Lent as a time of prohibitions, but a time of conversion to become better persons and better Christians. Fr. Aris explained that these could be achieved not just by abstaining from wrongdoing, but more importantly, by performing acts of love for God and neighbor.
“God’s greatest commandment is not to avoid sin. God’s greatest commandment is to love,” shared Fr. Aris.
The next spiritual formation is scheduled on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the residence of Don Leonardo de Ocampo in Dasmariñas Village, Makati. Fr. Genaro Diwa will celebrate the Mass and guide the members in their reflection.
