On February 11, 2010, the Order of Malta Philippines celebrated the 18th World Day of the Sick. In 1992, His Holiness Pope John Paul II declared February 11, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes as World Day of the Sick. His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, D.D., Archbishop of Manila, together with 17 priests, celebrated the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral. Blessing and anointing of more than 1,000 sick and disabled, as well as health caregivers followed the mass. The event was held in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Manila and the Ministry of Health Care.
Lunch was served to the participants and ushers, choir, and lay ministers of the Espiritu Santo Parish, Manila, hosted by the Ambassador of the Order of Malta to the Philippines, Ambassador Leonida L. Vera.
