On February 11, when the Church keeps the liturgical memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, the 15th World Day of the Sick was celebrated in Seoul, Korea. Held on a different continent each year, the theme for 2007 was “The Spiritual and Pastoral Care of Patients with Incurable Diseases.”

The Order of Malta Philippines together with the Archdiocese of Manila celebrated the World Day of the Sick on February 10, 2007 at the Espiritu Santo Parish in Manila. The celebration brought together 1,534 sick and old persons from different hospices, clinics, parishes, outreach centers, charity foundations and hospitals in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.

The mass was concelebrated by His Eminence, Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, and 30 priests from the healing ministry. To many of the sick, anointing is a profound ritual through which their bodies are strengthened and brought closer to God.

The luncheon after the mass was offered by Her Excellency Amb. Leonida Vera and Doña Victoria Concepcion.
