280 units of brand-new wheelchairs were received by the Order of Malta Philippines from the Meehan Family Foundation, USA on July 22, 2009. This was the second time that the Meehan Family Foundation sponsored an entire container shipment to the Philippines, “to provide mobility to the disabled.” 52 recipient organizations throughout the country received the donations with their disabled patients during a turnover ceremony at the Casino Español in Manila on August 8, 2009.
Mr. Daniel Meehan, a member of the Order of Malta – Western Association, USA and Founder and CEO of the Meehan Family Foundation, met with some of the wheelchair recipients at the Santuario de San Antonio Parish Hall during his visit last January 10, 2010. Mr. Meehan showed his love and concern for the end recipients, who gratefully accepted the donation during a short turnover ceremony. Also in attendance were members of the Order, led by the President, Don Ernesto B. Rufino, and representatives from the Sisters of Mary who accompanied him during the visit. The meeting with Mr. Meehan was followed by lunch hosted by Doña Marivic Concepcion.
