On September 25, 2009, a historical event unfolded in Hong Kong: the first investiture of the Order of Malta on Chinese soil. Audrey Donnithorne, Dames of Magistral Grace, Kevin Mann, Joseph Hui and Bishop Eugene Nugent were awarded their Cross and Robes by His Excellency, James Dominguez CBE AM, Ambassador of Sovereign Military Order of Malta to South East Asia and the Far East.
Also present were Simon Grenfell of the Order of Malta Britain, David Scarf Order of Malta Australia, Steve Ngo, Order of Malta Singapore, David Charles Scarf AM, Order of Malta Australia, Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, and Odelia G. Arroyo, Order of Malta Philippines.
The event was also the occasion for another first: the first Asian Order of Malta meeting, strengthening bonds between the Orders from different countries and bolstering the Order’s presence in Southeast Asia.
