The third Asia Pacific Conference was held on October 12-14, 2012 in Sydney, Australia and was attended by 50 participants from Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea, Portugal, Philippines, Timor Leste, France, Germany, and the host country, Australia, and members of the Grand Magistry headed by the Grand Hospitaller, HE Albrecht Freiherr von Boeselager, Mr. Ingo Radtke from Malteser International, the Order’s worldwide relief agency and representatives from CIOMAL, the Order’s agency taking care of those afflicted with leprosy, were also in attendance.
The aim for bringing together all the delegation from Asia is to continuously increase cooperation and partnerships amongst member countries and to strengthen the role of the Order of Malta within the Asia Pacific region.
The Order’s Grand Hospitaller, Albrecht von Boeselager, said of the conference:
“The initiative started by the Australian Association to expand into the Asia Pacific region is undoubtedly one of the most important in the recent history of the Order. It is most encouraging to experience how its programs in the region are growing and how much this encourages all the participants to ever increase their efforts to carry out the Order’s hospitaller mission.”
The Philippine delegation was headed by Don Ernesto B. Rufino, Jr., President. Other attendees were Doña Odelia Arroyo, Hospitaller, Doña Delza Lazatin, Treasurer, and members Josefina P. Rufino and Dr. Leopoldo H. Lazatin.
